Water is not all there is to drink in this thirsty country! Included in the Cape Winelands region is Route 62, considered the longest wine route in the world. What about beer? Saffers love their beer…but the real reason the brewery is so big? South Africa is the only country in the entire world that has voluntarily abandoned its nuclear weapons programme.

Great weekend away with lots of eating and drinking places, good value for money and lots of shopping especially antiques, art and decorating items. Bonus is the Outdoor activities in and around the Vaal river with golf course etc. Browse the antique stores, they are quite something, as well as the markets that happen regularly.

We also loved the atmosphere at the markets. Nice to visit over the weekend. Enjoy the liittle shops and friendly people. Restaurants was packed but service were good.
O's restaurant on the riverbanks was superb and Art Lovers guesthouse the best in Parys. Restaurants and shops close early and are overpriced. No night life I would recommend booking at the Pont de Vaal restaurant and do the wine tasting Cocktails at Pickles Pig Ale house was great and views from die Plek. Parys has some very classy shops and seems to want to cater for tourists, but the high street is positively dangerous.
There is constant traffic, including huge lorries thundering down and parking on the high street, day and night and dangerous walkways. In addition, opening hours are a joke, at the times when most people are around, Friday afternoon, Saturdays and Sundays they are hardly open and some of the restaurants close at nine.
Our friends from Europe would think it was a joke, as do we. It makes no commercial sense and clearly the traders are only suiting themselves. Hoi Polloi is an overpriced restaurant and the food is a inappropriate combination of flavours and at times utterly tasteless. The chef needs to be retrained. Lovely little town - we were told it was not safe in the evenings due to drug problems but we didn't feel unsafe at all.
All the restuarants close early on a sunday night so plan well if arriving late. The room we had was very clean, tidy, spacious with fridge, microwave, good aircon, huge bathroom with bath and shower, toiletries exceptional, very friendly and helpful staff. Greatest breakfast. Felt very safe. Love this place and will definately recommend!
Book Casa Cara Guest House
The lady that welcomed us and went and showed our the room is the best! The venue was clean, comfortable and very centrally situated. The staff was friendly, efficient and helpful. I would recommend this guesthouse to anyone looking for a weekend getaway in Parys. The location on the Vaal river and my wife was served a fresh omelette. Parys fits our itinerary when we travel to the Kruger National Park.
Abdul and the staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming. Great location, close to town. Pool table, darts and ping pong a real win! Beautiful room, beautiful design and creative.
